ACM 4.7 (29-MAR-1997)

Flight Simulator - Author: Riley Rainey rainey@netcom.com
Licence: GNU General Public Licence
VAX: DEC C 5.0, VMS 6.1 - Alpha DEC C 5.0 , VMS 6.1

This is a re-release of ACM 4.7 for VMS, source only, with modifications to support build with DEC C 5.2. The old version with VMS binaries is also available.

ACM is a LAN-oriented, multiplayer aerial combat simulation. Main design
objective was to provide source code that could be easily compiled and
executed on a wide variety of platforms. To that end, acm is written entirely
in C, exploiting the programming features of Unix, X11, and the BSD socket
interface.

Players engage in air to air combat against one another using heat seeking
missiles and cannons.

ACM is implemented as two programs. The first, named "acm", is a small
program that, when invoked, starts a flight session on a given workstation.
The second component, named "acms", is a server process that manages the
multiplayer environment. It also manages the flight simulation and
display management that is required. Most players will prefer to run the
acms process on a back-end server system on their local area network. Players
at client workstations can then invoke the acm program to begin play.

FLY8 1.11 (30-SEP-1996)

FLY8 simulator - Author: Eyal Lebedinsky eyal@ise.canberra.edu.au
Licence: Free software
VAX: DEC C 5.0, VMS 6.1 - Alpha: DEC C 5.2, VMS 6.2

This program is a flight simulator. It puts more emphasis on
the dynamics than on the cosmetics: just wire-frame. It can
run on any machine but a 386DX is the minimum for any decent
    performance.

The program was written for fun. I borrowed ideas from
everywhere and hope to hear some more. The basic design is
based on a program I wrote more than 20 years ago at uni
(the Technion). I had an excellent coach (Danny Cohen) and I
still have fond memories of those times. But now my computer
has more than 24Kbytes of memory! so Fly8 is written in C
(Fly8 was the name of the last version of the original pro-
gram dated 12-JAN-1974, it was written in PDP15 assembly -
    macro15 - for a VT15 graphics processor).

FLIGHT 3.1 (1-JAN-1995)

Digital's Flight Simulator - Author: Digital
Licence: Free usage
VAX: VMS 5.5, MOTIF - Alpha: VMS 6.1 (or VMS 1.5 with Pascal RTL), MOTIF

FLIGHT is an aircraft simulator which runs on Digital workstations running the DECwindows workstation software. It attempts to present a real-time simulation of environments (worlds) in which a user may fly with up to 7 other participants. You have the choice of 120+ planes, boats and vehicules and you can run the simulation in about 30 different worlds.

The FLIGHT kit is composed of the following components:

The FLIGHT Simulator, which is the component of FLIGHT which allows you
to run an interactive simulation.

The FLIGHT Server, which is required for all simulations. However, if you
have access to any system with the FLIGHT Server installed on it, you may
use that Server and choose not to install the Server component on your
system.

The FLIGHT Developer Kit, which is the software used to create and modify
your own aircraft and world environments.

The FLIGHT Examples, which is a collection of sample aircraft and instrument
sources, as well as the standard FLIGHT instruments and weapons as compiled
hangars.

Flight 3.1 kit is huge (about 9 Mbytes) and it is better to grab it from The VMS Freeware CDROM 3.0. No sources are provided, only binaries, documentation and data files.

France world for Digital's Flight - Author: Patrick Moreau pmoreau@cena.dgac.fr
Licence: GNU General Public Licence
VAX: VMS 6.x , Alpha: VMS 6.x , Flight 3.1

France 3.4 is a 3D world for Flight 3.1 featuring a lot of airports, radio navigation aids and goodies found in France : 7 airports near Paris (with Orly and Roissy CDG international airports), the Atlantic coast from Hendaye (near Spain) to Noirmoutier with airports, coast, rivers, islands, harbours, etc ..., Toulouse international airport, Clermond-Ferrand airport with the old volcanos called "Puys" and so on ...

LUDOVIC WORLD (18-DEC-1995)

World for Digital's Flight - Author: Ludovic Moreau
Licence: GNU General Public Licence
VAX: VMS 6.x , Alpha: VMS 6.x , Flight 3.1

Its a training world (made by my son) with two islands and a long bridge (6 km) between them. You can fly, but also drive some vehicles (cars, M1 tank, ...) on the bridge and the islands. You can eve climb the hills, it's very fun.

Each island has it's own airfield with very wide runways (133 m) for an easy landing, control towers and hangars. You can also use the bridge as a runway, two entry points are provided on the bridge. Some entry points are also provided for ships (one under the bridge ...) .

Midway world, created for Flight version 2.2 some years ago, when the Earth was not a sphere ... Adaptated for Flight 2.5 and 3.0/3.1 version with a real Earth using Map Coordinates. The two island are surrounded with a pretty coral reef. This world is not derived from the Digital's Midway World.

World for Digital's Flight - Author: Patrick Moreau pmoreau@cena.dgac.fr
Licence: GNU General Public Licence
VAX: VMS 6.x , Alpha: VMS 6.x , Flight 3.1

Here is Volcano world made by myself and my son Ludovic for Flight. Its a training world with an atoll and a volcano. You can fly, but also drive some vehicles (cars, M1 tank, ...) on Totatora atoll and Volcano island. You can even climb the volcano, it's very fun but rather hard.

Volcano island is an island with a runway, and a volcano. A "secret base" is set up inside the crater, and you can take off with helicopters, Sea Harrier and also some WW1 planes (really interesting and difficult in such a small crater !!). Two entry points are also available on both sides of the volcano.

HANGAR 1.2 (13-JAN-1997)

Hangar for Digital's Flight - Author: Patrick Moreau pmoreau@cena.dgac.fr
Licence: GNU General Public Licence
VAX: VMS 6.x, Alpha: VSM 6.x , Flight 3.1

Hangar made of various objects derived from original world or hangar flight objects. Some are rather interesting, especially two gas balloons. The Archimede force is unknown under Flight, and I was forced to emulate it via a vectored thrust bound on a nozzle (like the ones on the Harrier AV8-B, controled with F9-F10). When the nozzle is vertical, you have a good approximation of a balloon launch. With a little pitch, you have simulated the wind (or the motors of the Zepplin). Some alternate pilot view are implemented (you can see them with PF4 Fn combination, the default view is retreived with PF4 F1)

Objects available are: A balloon, a zepplin, Supercopter (Air Wolf), an autonomous pilot, new versions of Bofors AA batteries, a Mosquito and a V22 Osprey both with spinning propellers, an armed RV-4, a Crusader and a Typhoon.
