From: MERC::"uunet!CRVAX.SRI.COM!RELAY-INFO-VAX" 8-JUN-1992 09:23:41.87 To: info-vax@sri.com CC: Subj: CD Audio Player I've made a few slight mods to my CD Player (and I'll be doing so for a while yet, there's a lot to be added to it). I won't be sending mail out constantly about it (I promise), however, I did have one comment to make about it. The most recent version uses the logical name used by the DECW$CDPLAYER.C program ("DECW$CD_PLAYER"), rather than trying to be smart about deciding which device to use. I did this for a couple reasons, which I don't need to explain here. Most inportantly however, is that I've been told by a few people (and verified it for myself finally) that you do _NOT_ need to configure the drive to use the generic scsi driver (at least as of VMS V5.5, I'll check an earlier version of VMS tonight). This means that you no longer have to reconfigure and reboot everytime you want to switch between using an audio disk and a data disk. As I mentioned in my earlier post, you can get my CD Player by sending mail to "VSMSERV@FHCRCVAX.bitnet" or "VMSSERV@SPOCK.FHCRC.ORG" with a one line message of "SEND CD.PACKAGE". You can also request a file called $MODIFY.LIS, which I update whenever I make changes to any of the files on the fileserver. If you're keenly interested in having the most up to date version of any of my utilities (esp. the CD player, which is the only one I'm currently doing any real work on), you should request this file (using "SEND $MODIFY.LIS") every once in a while (weekly for the CD player stuff, at least for a little while).
