I'm not even dreaming of new features... Workstation bellyflops - We have found that increasing the size of the page file eliminates most of these. With the DEC recommended 12000 pages, I can't get through a day without the thing crashing. With 20000 pages, the problem seems to go away. (Not that it doesn't crash occasionally, just in slightly different ways and much less often). If it matters (it probably does) we are using 4MB VS2000's on an LAVC for software development. At the Cincinatti DECUS symposium, someone from the VWS group told me that DEC had committed internally to keep VWS alive for at least 5 years. That included all needed maintenance and some future development, but that development would likely be more in the nature of fine-tuning and improving what was already there, rather than significant new features. They are looking at improving the terminal emulator, for instance. This is because some major customers have a significant investment in VWS specific software. The future is DECwindows, however. What she told me was that if you use VWS, it will continue to work and be improved, but for new development DECwindows is recommended. ______________________________________ Terry Poot (800)255-2762, (913)776-3683 The McCall Pattern Company, 615 McCall Rd., Manhattan, KS 66502 BITNET: tp@mccall.claremont.edu INTERNET: tp%mccall.claremont.edu@cunyvm.cuny.edu UUCP: {any smart host}!psuvax1!mccall.claremont.edu!tp (I think)
